Research Disclaimer
The Global Cannabinoid Research Center (GCRC) publishes research, education and development information to help people understand cannabinoid science and the endocannabinoid system. This page explains how that information should be read.
Not medical advice
Nothing on this website is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. GCRC is not a healthcare provider. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about your health, starting or stopping any product, or changing a treatment plan. Never delay seeking medical care because of something you read here.
FDA statement
Statements on this website have not been evaluated by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Products and product concepts described here are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Product concepts
Brands and products shown are formulation concepts in development unless clearly marked otherwise. Formulas, ingredients, formats and availability may change before any product is released.
Pharmaceutical trademarks
Prevent®, Genevex®, Indole-A™, NANO® and NANO CFP® represent research directions and prototype concepts created for preclinical research. Preclinical means laboratory work that comes before any testing in people. These marks are not approved or marketed medicines. Their names and research areas do not establish clinical efficacy, safety results or regulatory approval. The name NANO CFP® describes a design goal and does not establish a tested safety result. Indole-A™ is a trademark in development and is not yet registered.
Research plans and findings
GCRC separates research plans from completed studies. Where a page describes an initiative, objective or planned study, it describes intended research, not results. Findings are identified as findings only when a completed study supports them.
Survey research and clinical evidence
The Get Balanced® Research Initiative gathers reported experiences through consented survey studies. Reported experience can reveal useful patterns, but it is not clinical evidence and does not show that a product is safe or effective.
Articles and commentary
Research articles are labelled by type. Commentary shares GCRC's views and interpretation. Research reviews summarize published work. Study findings report results from a specific study. Where original studies are available, we link to them so you can read the source.
Personal experience
Stories of patients, families and compassion care help explain why GCRC exists. They are not evidence that any product treats or prevents disease.
Legal status
Laws on cannabis, hemp and cannabinoid products differ by country, state and locality and change over time. It is your responsibility to know and follow the laws that apply to you.
Forward looking statements
Descriptions of planned products, programs, studies and partnerships reflect current intentions. Plans can change, and there is no guarantee that any product, program or study will be completed.
