Tropical Topicals®
functional terpene perfume.
Tropical Topicals® was developed by Mike Robinson over years of his various health battles, drawing on terpenes he personally found effective in aromatherapy and beyond. That experience shaped a product line combining the aromatic character of hemp with a thoughtful approach to formulation and skin application.

Personal experience shaped the idea. Formulation science shaped its development.
The line brings a full spectrum of hemp terpenes into a wearable essence, with no cannabinoids in the finished product. A specialized application system and proprietary microemulsion approach are designed to support terpene delivery into the skin.
Mike's personal experience is the origin of the line. Its application format and carrier connect that history with a familiar perfume experience and a purposeful approach to skin delivery.

The aromatic character of the plant.
A terpene profile is a combination of aromatic compounds, each contributing to the identity of the plant. The character comes from their relationships and proportions, rather than from one isolated scent note.
Tropical Topicals® is built around that fuller aromatic expression. Its perfume concept carries the complexity of the source terpene profile into a skin applied fragrance, with the sensory character determined by the terpenes present in each formula.
A fragrance platform built around formulation.
Tropical Topicals® pairs a perfume application format with a specialized delivery system. The applicator distributes the finished formula onto the skin. Within that formula, one proprietary additive enables a microemulsion intended to support terpene dispersion, release and skin absorption.
That distinction matters. A spray nozzle controls how a formula reaches the skin; the carrier influences how its ingredients behave once they are there. The delivery story begins in the formulation and continues at the skin surface.
The role of the microemulsion
A microemulsion is a structured mixture of oil and water stabilized by suitable surface active ingredients. It can provide a finely dispersed environment for oil loving compounds such as many terpenes. Research shows that a carefully selected formulation can affect their release and movement into skin. [1]
For Tropical Topicals®, enhanced skin delivery is the design objective. The proprietary ingredient remains confidential, while the finished formula's measured performance provides the basis for any specific absorption claim.

How the system is intended to work
After application, the microemulsion brings the terpene containing formulation into contact with the skin. Individual terpene molecules can leave the carrier and partition into the outer skin barrier. How much enters, how deeply it travels and how quickly this occurs depend on the compound and the finished formulation. [1]
This is a delivery process through intact skin, not a process of breaking or puncturing it. Skin deposition is different from transport across skin into circulation. Evidence of improved skin penetration does not, by itself, demonstrate delivery throughout the body.
Skin application avoids the digestive route. A claim of systemic delivery or avoidance of initial hepatic first pass metabolism requires evidence that the finished formula delivers the relevant terpenes into circulation.
The route changes what happens to a terpene.
Terpenes can be encountered through fragrance, skin application, swallowed products and heated inhalation. These routes expose compounds to different conditions. The relevant question is how the intended formula behaves through its intended route.
| Route | What the route involves | What this supports |
|---|---|---|
| Skin application | Release from a carrier and movement into or across the skin barrier. | A formulation strategy that avoids gastrointestinal exposure. Depth and systemic uptake remain product specific. [1] |
| Swallowed products | Gastrointestinal exposure, absorption and metabolism, including possible initial hepatic first pass metabolism. | Oral terpenes can be absorbed and metabolized. They are not necessarily destroyed or rendered inactive by the stomach. [2] |
| Heated inhalation | Exposure to heat that can change terpene chemistry and generate degradation products. | Thermal degradation is relevant to route selection. The cited experiment studied dabbing conditions, not perfume use. [3] |
A different way to apply the plant profile
Tropical Topicals® is designed as a skin applied perfume. It does not require swallowing the formula or heating it for inhalation. Its delivery approach focuses on how the terpene profile is formulated and presented to the skin.
Aroma and absorption are different things
The perfume also produces an aroma that can be smelled. That sensory experience is separate from any claim about skin absorption, blood concentrations or whole body effects.
The science behind the delivery discussion.
These primary studies support the scientific discussion on this page. None tested Tropical Topicals® or its proprietary additive.
Linalool loaded microemulsions were assessed for skin permeation in diffusion cells. Formulation composition affected permeation, and selected formulations improved skin delivery compared with a linalool in ethanol control. This supports the relevance of carrier design, not a specific absorption rate for the finished perfume.

A study of oral limonene metabolism in four volunteers shows human processing of an orally administered terpene, supporting the description of oral uptake as absorption and metabolism rather than automatic loss of all activity. It was not an efficacy comparison with skin application.
Schmidt, L., and Göen, T. (2017). Archives of Toxicology, 91, 1175 to 1185.
Terpene degradation was examined under laboratory dabbing conditions, identifying toxic degradation products. This supports a heat related chemistry discussion without establishing that every inhalation method has the same outcome.

Developed by Mike Robinson through years of personal experience.
Tropical Topicals® grew out of Mike Robinson's own experience over years of his various health battles. As he developed the formulations, he personally found them effective in aromatherapy and beyond. Those experiences became part of his work developing a product line around the aromatic character of the plant.
That personal history continues to shape the collection, alongside his attention to formulation, application and delivery. Tropical Topicals® brings those interests together in a wearable terpene perfume, with no cannabinoids in the finished product.

What is Tropical Topicals®?
It is a functional terpene perfume line developed by Mike Robinson over years of his various health battles, drawing on what he personally found effective in aromatherapy and beyond. It combines hemp terpene profiles with a specialized application and microemulsion delivery approach.
Does the finished product contain cannabinoids?
No. The finished formula contains no cannabinoids. Full spectrum refers to the terpene profile rather than a cannabinoid extract.
What makes the formulation different?
One proprietary additive creates a microemulsion with the terpene profile. The application format brings that formula to the skin, while the carrier is designed to support dispersion, release and skin delivery.
What does functional mean here?
Functional describes the product's formulation purpose: combining a personal fragrance experience with a designed approach to skin delivery. Specific health effects require separate evidence from the finished product.
Does it have a proven high absorption rate?
Enhanced skin absorption is the design objective. Published research supports the potential of microemulsions for topical terpene delivery, and a numerical absorption rate for Tropical Topicals® will come from testing of its own finished formula.
Does skin application avoid the stomach?
Yes, the skin applied portion does not pass through the gastrointestinal tract. Delivery into circulation and any related systemic benefit require additional product specific evidence.
How should it be applied?
Follow the finished product's label for application sites, quantity and frequency. It is a skin applied perfume, not an oral product or an inhalation device.
