The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors (CBRs), and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the vertebrate central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system.
The endocannabinoid system remains under preliminary research, but may be involved in regulating physiological and cognitive processes, including fertility,[1] pregnancy, during pre- and postnatal development, various activity of immune system, appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory, and in mediating the pharmacological effects of cannabis or hemp.
Education is Key.
The GCRC is working on a new affiliation with an educational program for doctors, nurses, and anyone else who'd like to learn how the intricate Endocannabinoid system functions and how cannabis/hemp truly changes the lives of patients.
It can be challenging to locate information about the safety and therapeutic value of cannabis.
An unfortunate result of the federal prohibition of cannabis has been limited clinical research to investigate the safety and efficacy of cannabis in controlling symptoms of severe and chronic illness.
Many scientists have noted research is “hindered by a complicated federal approval process, limited availability of research-grade marijuana, and the debate over legalization.”
Nonetheless, the documented use of cannabis as a safe and effective therapeutic botanical dates to 2700 BC. Between 1840 and 1900, European and American journals of medicine published more than 100 articles on the therapeutic use of cannabis.
Cannabis was part of the American pharmacopeia until 1942.
It's currently available by prescription in Canada, the Netherlands, Israel, and Germany.
When a Traditional Healer is asked how their people learned how to use a specific plant medicine, the answer is usually that a God or Spiritual leader taught them. Each of us has a spiritual sense that can be used to seek answers, but others use science.
Finding a new plant medicine involves searching for what works well for unique physiologic health.
Traditional Healers are still the primary or only source of healthcare for many regions of the world.
The loss of Traditional Healers in some areas has resulted in significant changes in healthcare, sometimes to the detriment of the people.
In our modern world of plant medicine, we've made leaps and bounds in clinical trials, university study, and independent research.
As much as the healer of the past is still necessary, so is the education of the healers of today who hold various degrees in medicine.
"The GCRC firmly believes in community over competition on a Global basis.
As a collective group of plant medicine specialists, we must collaborate, cooperate, and work together."
